Why a moisturizing beauty face mask is better for your skin

When I first got into skin care as a teen, it was overwhelming to be faced with so many product options and routine recommendations. I started with a facial wash because it seemed like the most basic thing to have, and I also got a bentonite clay mask because I would always see women wearing them in movies. Little did I know then that this mask was not good for my skin!

The clay mask made my already dry skin feel even more dry and tight. It was also very difficult to wash off, so I had to use a damp towel to remove the mask. I later learned that a bentonite clay mask is more apt for use on oily skin, because it’s made from a very absorbent material that is sometimes even used for cat litter. It’s not a bad ingredient, but if you have dry or sensitive skin, there is a better alternative.

A beauty face mask that hydrates and nourishes skin works well for every kind of skin type. It helps to restore moisture deep into the skin layers, so skin feels soft and plump. This also makes skin more balanced, so that dry skin is soothed while oily skin produces less sebum.

Sheet face masks are the most popular type of beauty face mask for dry skin, in part because of how easy they are to use. Unlike the bentonite clay mask which may need to be mixed with a liquid prior to use, the sheet face mask is made from paper or cellulose that has been soaked in a special essence. To use, you need only to unfold the mask and place it on your face. The skincare face mask packet usually contains a single mask, so it’s easy to bring anywhere and use anytime.

Because the sheet face mask essence is designed to be left on the face, they often also feature additional skin-caring ingredients that help target other skin concerns like dark spots, redness, and even fine lines. I don’t really like applying too many skin care products because they require more time and effort, so the best beauty face mask addresses several of my skin care needs in one nifty solution!

Dullness is a common problem for my dry skin, so I appreciate that the Olay Skinfusions Deep Sea Algae Healthy Glow Aura Sheet Mask (P129) contains niacinamide and Japanese Deep Sea Algae to help brighten my complexion. At 36, I also try to use more anti-aging ingredients in my skin care so the Olay Skinfusions Sake Yeast Wrinkle Relaxing Sheet Mask (P149) is a great option for me. My favorite would have to be the Olay Skinfusions Camellia Nourishing Sheet Mask (P129) though, which I think is particularly unique because it contains the famous Camellia Oil that the Japanese value for its ability to moisturize and nourish skin without feeling oily or sticky. I was also surprised to find that this has a soft mesh backing that makes applying and positioning the mask on my face easier!

While it’s true that a bentonite clay mask is functionally different from a hydrating beauty face mask, I find that keeping my skin well-hydrated actually helps with keeping my skin clear of blackheads and flakiness! It’s a gentler masking option, making it the best beauty face mask for sensitive skin. It also has more skin care benefits, so consider adding it to your weekly routine!
