YADAH: The K-beauty brand made for teenage skin

I remember purchasing my first daily sunblock five years ago. I had just learned that I needed sun protection not just for beach trips, but every single day. Since I was just 16 at the time, I looked for a mild formulation that would suit my adolescent skin and chanced upon YADAH’s Oh My Sun Block SPF35 PA++. Because it was lightweight and slightly moisturizing without the sticky feel, it was easier for me to get into the habit of wearing sunscreen daily.

Speaking of easy, sunscreen is the kind of skincare product that you should never run out of so it’s a good thing that YADAH is now available on Glamourbox! The Glamourbox team kindly sent us some YADAH products to try, including the renamed Oh My Sunscreen SPF35 PA++ (P350 for 20mL, P895 for 50mL). It’s exactly the same great formula as I remember it to be, with a faint lavender-like scent. I don’t get white cast, and it sinks into my skin just like a moisturizer but might feel a bit heavy for those with oilier skin types.

When I first purchased this sunscreen many years ago, I only knew that it was recommended for teenage skin but wasn’t sure why. As it turns out, YADAH was specifically formulated by its owner and CEO Anna Kang for her young kid who was experiencing breakouts. As a concerned mom, she looked for low-irritant and mild skincare products but was not satisfied by what she saw in the market. She then started her own brand with the philosophy of using only mild and safe ingredients so that even the most sensitive skin can use it. YADAH is formulated without parabens, artificial colorings, sulfates, mineral oils, or animal extracts. They also use eco-certified ingredients to help protect the environment, so it’s a good option for those looking for skincare that does not harm animals.

While the brand may have been made for adolescent skin, YADAH can be used by anyone looking for mild and non-irritating skincare products. YADAH’s star ingredients are Prickly Pear (Opuntia ficus) extract, which has anti-inflammatory and high antioxidant properties, mixed with Raspberry root and Winter Green Tea leaf extract, both of which also have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Apart from the sunscreen, I tried the Green Tea Pure Cleansing Balm (P1,190 for 100mL) which claims to be a hypoallergenic formula. It contains natural green tea powder and olive oil that can absorb and remove the fine dust which gets stuck inside pores.

The cleansing balm immediately turns into oil when it comes into contact with my skin, and easily removed a full face of makeup, including waterproof mascara! There was slight clouding of my vision right after washing because some of the product got into my eyes, but it did not sting at all. The balm does emulsify but it’s difficult to wash it off with just water. The instructions say that you can just wipe it off using tissue or a towel, but personally I feel the need to double cleanse with a wash afterwards.

Glamourbox also sent two sheet masks: the Collagen Mask Pack and the Soothing Mask Pack (P99 each) which my brother and I tried together. Upon opening the packets, we noticed a weird scent on both masks. The production dates indicated that they were both fine so I think the scent is due to the mask not having any artificial fragrance.

The sheet mask material itself is a bit thick so it didn’t need that extra plastic backing for application. Both my brother and I noticed a pleasant cooling sensation. I used the Soothing variant and noticed that my skin was indeed less red immediately after removing the mask, while my brother said his skin felt very well moisturized by the Collagen variant. We did experience slight itching from the mask sheet itself because right after removing it, the itchy sensation disappeared. To further verify, I saved the remaining essence, used it the next day, and didn’t experience any itching. I didn’t get any bad reactions from the mask but my brother got three pimples on his cheek the day after masking. He has very sensitive, oily, and acne-prone skin so we do think he had a bad reaction to the mask.

The Oh My Sunscreen SPF35 PA++ is still my favorite among the YADAH products I got to try. At P350 for the 20ml tube, I think it’s a great product to get used to wearing sunscreen daily, especially for teens starting on a skincare routine. It certainly worked for me!
