A throwback to the 90s with Claudia Schiffer’s makeup line, now in the PH

Supermodel Claudia Schiffer has had a lot of time to ruminate on her makeup collection – she was the 90’s It Girl and has had a very active three-decade old career. That’s countless years spent having makeup done on herself, so who better to create a line than the woman who has served as the muse of countless photographers and fashion designers?

The collection comes out of nowhere as it hits us with a pretty complete offering. You have the standard lipsticks and glosses, mascara, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, eyeshadow quads, foundation in four shades, concealer in three shades, blush, contour, illuminator, setting powder, and even nail polish!

Claudia Schiffer’s trademark look is sun-kissed skin and smudgy eyes. The contour powder is even available in the shade Tan Lines, in keeping with Claudia’s beach babe iconography. It makes sense that this collection would go for pretty much the complete base routine (6 base products in all) as fans would definitely want to cop that feature the most!

I actually almost missed the launch, so I wasn’t able to swatch as much. A quick perusal though leads me to declare the powder products (Quad Eyeshadows, P1,650; Blusher, P1,650; Contouring Powder, P1,650; and No Colour Setting Powder,  P1,995) all must tries! They’re universally silky, finely-milled, and a joy to blend. The prices are a little up there, but not extortion-levels for a good-quality, celebrity collaboration. More good news: this collection was actually manufactured by Artdeco, so you can expect the same level of quality with this collection!

I got to take home the Claudia Schiffer Quad Eyeshadow in Denim (P1,650) and the Claudia Schiffer Lip Gloss in Lollipop (P825) to try.

The quad is encased in millennial pink acrylic, with a nice touch of gold lining. It has a tight magnetic snap and the lower left shade features a pressed cloud design, which also features on top of the lip gloss’s gold handle. I think it’s a cute, minimalist way to callback to your name (cloud-ia, get it?) And can I just gush about the perfect combination of modern millennial and 90’s baby? I like how she held back on the references and nostalgia. The colors of the makeup alone evoke the era, and I like how she chose to keep the packaging modern and tastefully simple!

Denim is a pretty initimidating quad to work with. It features a matte blue, shimmery sky blue, light blue, and shimmery deep blue shades! It’s best with a supporting nude palette, because these colors alone can look a little jokey.

I did a smudgy blue cat eye gradient with multiple hues off the Denim quad, plus a few nudes of my own. The quad is truly pigmented and so easy to blend! If you wanna play safe though, there are peachy (Beachy) and nude (Pretzel Shades) palettes for those who can’t with pure blue eye shadow.

The gloss feels a tad goopy, but not as ridiculously shiny as the glosses of the nineties – another clever update on Claudia Schiffer’s part. The soft pink of Lollipop shows up as a nice pinkish nude on even my dark lips, and is a nice accent for nude lips.

Overall, I love how this nostalgic collection playfully throwbacks to the old while updating little details here and there. Denim and blue eyeshadow were definitely a thing back then, and it’s interesting to use them with modern makeup looks. What was your favorite look of the nineties?

Claudia Schiffer makeup is available in Beauty Bar stores in Central Square Bonifacio High Street, Alabang Town Center, Eastwood, Glorietta 2, Greenbelt 5, Rockwell, Shangri-la and TriNoma.
