L'Oreal has made a major move in the luxury skincare market by signing to acquire Australian brand Aesop for $2.53 billion. This is L'Oreal's biggest brand acquisition yet, and it comes at a time when the company is moving towards more upmarket labels where consumers are less affected by economic downturns. The purchase provides some financial relief to Brazilian company Natura, which owns Avon and The Body Shop, and has been struggling with shrinking margins and heavy debt.

When it comes to face bases, I have a bias for lightweight foundations. I love how it evens out my skin tone without covering too many imperfections, thus allowing my skin to still look like skin. The light to medium coverage is also great for everyday wear as it fades more gracefully and is not as fussy as full coverage foundation can be. Weather-wise, lightweight formulas are just perfect for the fickle super-hot-then-suddenly-wet season we’re currently experiencing, as these lightweight foundations literally feel like nothing on the skin. 

I love full coverage foundation, but that’s not what I actually wear every single day. I’d go for it if I need to look flawless for an event or a shoot, but if I’m just stepping out for a casual day or some light meetings, I prefer to use a base that’s more comfortable and fresh-looking. The L’Oreal Infallible makeup line has been such a hit here in the Philippines, where the tropical weather constantly threatens to melt the makeup right off our faces. Their long-wearing makeup formulations have received generally good feedback, and I do think that it lives up to its “Infallible” branding. I actually find myself reaching for the pressed powder and lipstick even when I have more premium choices in my arsenal! It’s easily one of the top makeup lines in its price range, so when YouTubers started buzzing about the new Infallible concealer, I got very curious about trying it for myself.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I like my eyes, but my eyelashes can be a pain. Like the hair on my head, my lashes are naturally rebond-straight, somewhat fine, and do what they want, which usually involves clumping together when curled or after more than one coat of mascara. On top of this, I have an odd eye shape: a tapering eyelid crease creates a “hood” which tends to swallow up my lashes. Because of this, putting on mascara can be a nerve-racking experience, as I’m constantly running the risk of getting product all over my lids.
