Hot right now: Hair and makeup looks we loved at the Oscars 2016

Now that we’ve settled down over the monumental and long awaited Oscar Best Actor Win of Leonardo DiCaprio, it’s time to tackle what’s really important to us beauty girls: who put the best face and hair forward for the 88th Academy Awards, of course! Here are our top picks!

Saoirse Ronan

She may not have bagged that Best Actress Oscar and we can’t sometimes pronounce her name (it’s seer-sha. Seer - rhymes with CLEAR. Sha - rhymes with HUH), but Saoirse is an overall winner across the board hair and makeup wise as she has consistently appeared in most of the best hair and makeup lists of this season. Beauty editors and junkies alike went gaga over her smoky and sensual silver eyeliner which transitioned the once child actor to the sexy siren that she is now. Note her barely groomed, "smoky" brows (yes that is a thing).

With her makeup complemented by a soft tumble of loose waves for her hair, we here at Project Vanity also give Saoirse a perfect 10.

Olivia Munn

If there’s one thing we should learn from Olivia Munn, it’s that when you find your color, you milk it for what it’s worth. Olivia’s glam team knows well that she can kill it with orange-red hues, so why not use it on Olivia’s entire ensemble? Aside from the orange-red lips that matched her gown, Olivia’s makeup artist Patrick Ta gave her a dose of varying orange hues on her eyes and cheeks to give her that lit-from-within glow. Do also check out her not-too-drawn eyebrows and soft smokey eyeliner. We love how this look is so accessible and a perfect execution of matching your makeup with your outfit.

Rooney Mara

We love beach waves, we love unkempt buns and a perfect updo, but we appreciate risk takers especially when the risk pays off. Rooney Mara made her ultra pale skin and super dark hair color work for her by donning a sleek, slicked back, three-stacked bun - a far departure from the safe knots and buns of the award circuit. Her precisely applied makeup of grey-violet eyeshadow tones and a deep brick-red lip tied it all together to make a dramatic futuristic look that is less costume and more trendsetter.

Lady Gaga

What do you do when you’ve done everything? Lady Gaga still elicits awe, not by having the loudest makeup on the red carpet, but actually doing the opposite: monochromatic makeup. Lady Gaga’s makeup artist Sarah Tano wanted to create a monochromatic look that is bold yet new, and something that would still look timeless after 10 years. That’s why she chose a variation of rose tones to create Lady Gaga’s rich, shimmery, and classic makeup. We are already scrambling for our Naked 3 palette as we speak!

Jennifer Lawrence

Cool Girl doesn’t try too hard to look polished when attending red carpet events. Cool Girl rocks a smoky eye and a just-right rose lips because, oh, she’s already won one of these. Who else to bring our list home than Academy Award Winner and resident Cool Girl JLaw? We know, we know. JLaw didn’t show up at the Oscars and “woke up like this,” but we love how unassuming and relaxed her look is. Simple straight, shiny hair paired with a smokey eye look sends just the right “Chill, I’ve done this” vibe.

So there goes our top picks for the 88th Academy Awards! Did any of your faves make it to our list? Think you'll try copping one of these red carpet looks for a special occasion?
