This edgy BYS celebrity collab is made for the dance floor

She’s one of the most sought-after choreographers in the country, guiding the biggest stars on how to rock the dancefloor. And with her distinctive and somewhat quirky style, it’s not hard to see why Georcelle Dapat-Sy (aka, Teacher Georcelle) was tapped by BYS Cosmetics to collaborate on a daring new line of lipsticks. There’s a new MOVE in town that you’re gonna want to try!

The founder of G-Force put her own mantra into the collab, which stands for “Make it. Own it. Value it. Elevate it.” MOVE by BYS consists of 8 lipsticks in nude and bold shades. The packaging has a futuristic design and a metallic finish, setting them apart from the brand’s usual pro makeup look. A special “chained” version that can be worn as a necklace is available at P649, while the regular bullet goes for P449. The tubes contain 1.45g of product.

I was able to try two shades from the collection, and I decided to go big or go home with two bold picks. Though Beast Mode might sound scary and intimidating, it’s actually quite sophisticated on the pout. It’s an autumn-ready muted marsala burgundy with a surprise smattering of gold sparkle. The shimmer isn’t obvious until you’re within two feet of a mirror, but it seems to add some warmth to the shade. It has a matte finish, but also has enough glide to help application along without smearing. There is a slight tendency for the color to migrate to the outer edges of the lips, so stick to two passes (which is enough to achieve full pigmentation) and avoid pressing the lips together. I get comfy, hydrated wear up until the 3-hour mark when it begins to feel completely dry.

Next up is On Pointe, an homage to ballet with a twist. The cool-toned medium red has a satin finish and a lot of glide. I find this shade flattering on my yellow-toned skin, providing just the right contrast to pop nicely. It does have a tendency to feather on the edges, so using a lip liner would be a good idea to keep everything in place. I get 4 hours of comfortable wear before this starts to fade.

Swatches, from left: Freestyle, Beast Mode, Warmed Up, On Pointe, Shablam, Pin Up, Fly Girl, Humbhaaam

The six other colors are: Freestyle, a nude beige that the G Force men wear for performances; Warmed Up, a medium mauve pink; Shablam, a vibrant orange-red; Pin Up, a milky pastel nude pink; Fly Girl, a rich wine red; and Humbhaaam, a medium berry fuchsia. The lipsticks all have a milky vanilla scent.

I found the MOVE collection to be well-curated, with a diverse selection of shades. I particularly enjoy the unique packaging, which stands out from the other celebrity collabs the Australian brand has had in the past. Plus, the necklace concept is pretty handy for easy lip reapplication!
