You can now buy menstrual cups in Mercury Drug
Yes, it’s true - menstrual cups are now available in Mercury Drug! When I saw the news I was amazed that what seemed like a pipe dream before is now a reality for us MC users. If you’re a menstrual cup user or even just mildly curious about it, I’m sure you’ve found out how hard it is to get access to different brands here in the Philippines. We are still firmly conservative in many ways, but I’m happy to share that this is one front where the market is becoming more open!
But wait, why should you get on the menstrual cup train (if you haven’t yet)? I was also unsure about in the beginning because I heard that there’s a learning curve when it comes to using them. I was fine with my pads and tampons, too. But once I finally got try a cup, it’s like wtf did I waste all this time not using one? It’s the best way to handle our period mess! For one thing, it’s less smelly - huge relief. It also doesn’t feel like anything once it’s on, and you can proceed with your life as if you don’t have a period at all. You can swim, exercise, and pee in comfort. You know what I mean!
Plus, menstrual cups will reduce your carbon footprint. You won’t need to buy pads or tampons every month - cups just need to be washed and sanitized and can last for years. Pads/tampons are actually more expensive, whereas a cup will not need to be replaced for a long time.
If you’ve been thinking about trying it, I hope this is the sign you’ve maybe been waiting for. Intimina, creator of the popular Lily Cup, is now available inside several Mercury Drug branches! They have the Lily Cup Classic available, Lily Cup One, the Lily Cup Compact (which is awesomely retractable) and the Ziggy Cup Menstrual Disc. The price range is P1,300 to P2,000 depending on the design and size.
“t all started as a “What if?” back in 2016 and now we’re here, “ says Intimina Philippines’ Maye Mariano. “Menstrual cups has got to be one of the hardest things to sell specially here in the Philippines but I definitely see a future for this and I hope I get to encourage more Filipinas to make the switch. This is just the beginning.”
I’ll be reviewing a couple of these soon, but in the meantime, here are the Mercury Drug branches where Intimina is available as of publishing:
Mercury Drug Hercules-Bel Air branch, located along Makati Ave. near Brgy. Poblacion.
Mercury Drug BGC-32nd Street right across St. Lukes Medical Center.
Mercury Drug Alabang Town Center (Zapote Road side)
You can also shop for Intimina online at Shopee.
