Out of curiosity, we went two weeks on the Avon Anew Reversalist Skincare Routine to see what will happen
Sharam sharam, sharam sharam... Only 90’s kids will get the reference, but that Donna Cruz song’s catchy portion has been stuck in my head since I received the Avon Anew Reversalist collection. The ageless beauty is the brand’s ambassador, and her flawless skin is definitely something to behold. The Anew Reversalist line is a brand best-seller and customer favorite, so I’ve taken on the two-week challenge to see if it can help my papery dry skin achieve even a fraction of Donna’s enduring awra.
The Anew Reversalist regimen starts with the Complete Renewal Foaming Cream Cleanser (P499 for 125g). These days, most foaming cleansers are a no-no for me as my skin can’t seem to tolerate anything more than a cleansing milk but I was pleased to find that this particular facial wash is actually low foam. My skin doesn’t feel parched afterwards, though I decided to play it safe by only using it once a day during the evenings for deep cleansing. I think those with normal, oily, or slightly dry skin types are okay to use the cream cleanser. It also has a strong aqua-floral scent, so this particular product might not be recommended for those who are sensitive to strong fragrances.
I have been using the Complete Renewal Toner (P499 for 100ml) as an essence, choosing to forgo the cotton pad in favor of just splashing and tapping on the formula with my hands. It has a slight tackiness and an instant softening and smoothing effect on the skin. It shares the same scent as the cleanser, but fades after 5 minutes.
Most interestingly, the newest addition to the Anew Reversalist line is the Bi-phase Serum (P1,099 for 30ml) that consists of 80% water serum and 20% oil. The bottle has to be shaken prior to dispensing to mix the two layers. What comes out is a very thin, runny facial oil that slips and slides smoothly across the skin. It gets absorbed rapidly, has a tingling sensation, and has a dewy finish. I couldn’t detect any strong fragrance. Though it might seem counterintuitive to use a facial oil-like product before moisturizer, the serum does feel like a lightweight refreshing and hydrating boost that you can later lock in with moisturizer.
The Reversalist Eye Cream (P699 for 15g) is a breeze to use for both day and night routines, because it isn't sticky or greasy on the eye area. My eyelids don't feel tacky the next morning and it wears comfortably under makeup.
Finally, the routine is complete with either the Complete Renewal Day Cream (P499 for 15g; P799 for 30g) or the Complete Renewal Night Cream (P499 for 15g; P799 for 30g). The former has SPF 25, which I feel confident enough about to wear outdoors for short periods of time. It’s light enough that it can be used under makeup without causing my bases to slip and slide off. The latter is equally light and non-greasy. Both have a satin finish.
After two weeks, I feel like my skin is fairly hydrated, though not deeply so. I would recommend this line more for normal to oily skin types. Those with more serious dry skin issues will need to add products like the occasional sleeping pack or sheet mask to get a higher, longer-lasting dose of moisture.
In terms of speedy skin renewal though, I did notice some obvious results. The hyperpigmentation on my jaw, chin, and forehead from breakouts past have faded noticeably, despite my not using any exfoliating products in the two weeks of the challenge. Perhaps I’ll chalk it up to the TRI-ELATINEX in the formulations that is said to boost elastin and promote renewal and regeneration in the skin. The light textures also make for a comfortable application experience, especially for those who don't like it heavy-feeling skincare layers.
