Quick Rave: Aveda Botanical Repair Strengthening Shampoo

In the last two years I’ve developed extra sensitive scalp and facial skin. Now I can’t just use hair products unless I really want to risk rashes on my scalp and pimples on my face! But when Aveda sent me a set of samples to try out last December, I thought I’d give it a chance since the products are supposed to be for “strengthening” hair. I have fine hair and hair fall so I was curious to see if it would help.

Well, let’s just say that I loved the sample size so much that I bought the 1 liter bottle!

The Aveda Botanical Repair Shampoo (P2,100 /200ml and P7,600 / 1000ml in Lazada) is formulated to be a damage repairing shampoo that is free of sulfated cleansers, silicone, parabens, mineral oil, animal ingredients, and synthetic fragrance. I don’t particularly avoid these ingredients because they’re fine in small doses to support the formulation, but it’s always nice to know that there are less irritating ingredients.

The perfect shampoo for me moisturizes my hair without flattening it (I have super fine hair), doesn’t break me out, and ideally smells good. This Aveda shampoo hits all three requirements. I love that it has this light herbal scent that’s soothing in the shower. Plus, it’s the only moisturizing shampoo in my arsenal that doesn’t make my hair lose volume! The brand uses a blend of botanical oils to add that moisture.

I don’t have damaged hair so I can’t tell you how it’s like, but I’m happy with how soft and smooth my hair feels every time I use this shampoo. I also use the Aveda Botanical Repair Leave-In Treatment (P2,000 in Lazada) which helps to further smooth down my frizzy hair when I’m going out. I’m also eyeing a full size bottle of that! I love it because it doesn’t feel sticky on my hair.

The only downside to this shampoo is how expensive it is. It’s really pricey for a shampoo, I admit, but it’s the only one that I’ve found that moisturizes without flattening my hair. I use the Oxecure body wash as shampoo - it’s fantastic for cleansing, but it can be drying to the hair when used too often. I also use Selsun Blue but that one also dries out hair.

Is the price justified? Yes if you don’t mind spending the money, but no if it’s out of budget. For me it’s worth it because of my specific hair needs. Plus I only need a small amount to get a good lather going so I feel that the bottle lasts a long time.

Let me know what you think of the Aveda Botanical Repair line! Should I get the Leave-In Treatment? I need to save up!
