The best swim-proof and sweat-proof makeup to try this summer

Summer is here, and that means it's time to cool off by the pool or by the beach! If you're used to wearing makeup, keeping your look fresh all day can be quite a challenge. To help each other out, we took some beauty tips from the lovely ladies who are constantly exposed to the sun, sand, and water.

SURFER GIRLS

These ladies ride the waves and are used to being under the sun, hence their concern for intense sun protection. Two top picks are Bobbi Brown BB Cream with SPF 30 and Shiseido Sun Protection Liquid Foundation with SPF 43.

The Bobbi Brown BB Cream got high praises from Project Vanity for its light to medium coverage that lasts a long time (6-8 hours!). It’s got you covered from sun protection to hydration.

Meanwhile, the Shiseido Sun Protection Liquid Foundation with SPF 43 is a favorite, especially if you’re frequently sweating or if you have an oily skin type. Plus, the super high SPF can’t be beat for staying out while having your summer fun.

SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMERS

Be impressed with not just their swimming acrobatics but with how they make their makeup last throughout their performance. One trick they shared is to use Chapstick as a primer before applying their favorite eyeshadows. Apparently, the wax in this lip balm keeps it from washing off with water!

Other favorite products are the water-resistant Clinique Superbalanced Makeup and Diorshow Mascara. Bonus: They use gelatin on their hair to make it stay put.

PROFESSIONAL MERMAIDS

We're not talking about mythical creatures here. We’re talking about the ladies who don fishtails and swim gracefully underwater. They certainly live up to the fantasy, looking their best even while submerged. Unfortunately the L’Oréal Paris’s Voluminous Waterproof Building Mascara in Black Brown that they swear by does not seem to be available locally. You can try one of our eye-mazing waterproof finds from the same brand like the False Lash Miss Manga Mascara.

Like the synchronized swimmers, the mermaids also use Chapstick. The lips are prepped with the waxy balm, then Revlon ColorStayLipliner applied on top and finished with a clear gloss.

OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS

If you're not going to actually go swimming and but there's a possibility that you could get splashed as you lay by the beach and read a book (or sleep as I usually do), here are some tips and products that you can try:

If you want to use your existing makeup powders, then mixing it with the Make Up Forever Eye Seal will make it waterproof. Added plus is this also intensifies the colors.

For eyeshadows, you can grab waterproof neutral shades like the Nudestix Magnetic Eye Color Pencil. For more vibrant shades, go for the Make Up Forever Aqua Matic Waterproof Glide On Eyeshadow that we also previously reviewed.

Another great product is the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara. Take note though that it's only water-resistant, so don't attempt to go swimming wearing it.

Want to look good without much effort? Use the Lancome Effacernes Waterproof Protective Undereye Concealer for your blemishes, then bring out that tanned glow with the Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer.

A good brand when it comes to waterproof long-lasting products is Stila, especially their Stay All Day line. Special mention goes to their Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner and the Liquid Lipstick.
