Hot Right Now: Smashbox launches holiday collection
Smashbox Cosmetics is one of those well-loved makeup brands that have been consistently producing hit after hit since they first launched in 1996. Born out of the famous Smashbox Studios in LA, Smashbox is known for their long-lasting makeup, their cult-fave Photo Finish Primers, and their amazing collaborations.
Speaking of collaborations, Smashbox just dropped three makeup products with great partnerships that we’re sure to love here in the Philippines! Their Cover Shot Eye Palettes (P1,500 each) are brought to life in campaigns by Pretty Little Liars star, Shay Mitchell. Each palette contains two base shades (top part of palette) and six blendable accent colors to play up your look and mood. Four palette variants are available locally: Ablaze, Matte, Metallic, and Golden Hour.
I got to swatch the Cover Shot Eye Palette in Golden Hour, which features a range of finishes from matte to shimmery. Happy to report that the eyeshadows are pigmented and buildable! The packaging is also handy and cool with a holographic powder cover.
The Spotlight Palette in Pearl (P1,800) is a highlighter palette created with famous YouTuber Casey Holmes. It's described as akin to having "your own lighting crew hiding in your bag" and contains two shimmery shades and one high-shine shade.
The palette comes with a mini guide on how to create three looks from Casey. There's the casual On-the-Go Look, the amped up Signature Glow Look, and the mega-wattage Blow-a-Fuse Look. She recommends to layer the Turn It On and Crank It Up shades for extra wattage in every step.
The Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick (P1,250) claims to last as long as 8 hours while still keeping the lips hydrated thanks to their Primer Oil Complex. This "smudge-, budge-, and kiss-proof" lipstick comes in 11 shades, including the lovely red Bawse that I featured as part of the lipstick wardrobe starter shades. That particular shade is a collaboration with YouTuber Lilly Singh!
Everyone’s so excited about this line finally being available here in the Philippines because it's gotten so many raves online. And the hype is real, guys! I was wearing Bawse last Wednesday and it lasted a good six hours on me, even with eating and lots of chika. The same happened with Liz and her shade, Big Spender. It is non-drying and just feels so light on - definitely not your typical liquid lipstick texture. You can check out Liz’s live video where she used the new Smashbox releases here.
