New Brand Alert: Peter Thomas Roth (plus capsule reviews of the masks!)

Late last year, I wrote about how we PV girls wished we had access to skincare brand Peter Thomas Roth. The beauty gods must have heard our prayers because the brand has finally arrived at our shores! Peter Thomas Roth Clinical Skincare believes in using scientifically proven ingredients at effective concentrations. These include glycolic acid and retinol for anti-aging, and hyaluronic acid for attracting moisture to the applied area. The brand also believes in using botanicals and other ingredients found in nature.

Some of their popular products include the Glycolic Solutions line, which includes a cleanser (P1,995), toner (P2,195), and moisturizer (P2,450) with concentrations of glycolic acid at 3%, 8%, and 10%, respectively. This line targets many different concerns including fine lines and wrinkles, large pores, and uneven skin tone. For those who need intense hydration, the Water Drench line (prices range from P995 to P3,500) includes a moisturizer with 30% hyaluronic acid complex, and a serum with a whopping 75% concentration!

What we PV girls really wanted to try, however, were their famous masks in tubs! Peter Thomas Roth boasts “A Mask for Every Task” - if you have a skin concern, they have the right mask for you. These tubs cost a pretty penny, but contain 150ml worth of product. That’s a lot more than the average mask!

For lifting and firming, the 24K Gold Mask (P4,200) claims to contain real gold to brighten the skin, caffeine to help the skin appear firmer and tighter, and hyaluronic acid and glycerin for hydration. It also contains peridot, a gemstone rich in magnesium, to re-energize and help reduce the look of stress. The gold mica gives it a really shimmery appearance, but once washed off, only a little is left behind. It’s undetectable unless you look really closely. I like using this in the daytime to give my skin a subtle glow.

For a hydrating mask that can be left on overnight, go for the Cucumber Gel Extreme De-tox Hydrator (P2,800). It has a load of botanical extracts such as cucumber, papaya, chamomile, pineapple, and aloe vera. I love the refreshing feeling on my the skin! I used this as a sleeping mask and in the morning, I found that my skin felt moisturized and not at all greasy.

For those who need deeper hydration, there is the Blue Marine Algae Intense Hydrating Mask (P2,800).  It has rich tea to nourish the skin, and a unique ingredient called Antarticine, which is sourced from Arctic glacial ice and has protective and strengthening properties to make the skin more resilient to environmental factors. The liquid appears a light blue in the bottle with some mica for a bit of a shimmer, but rest assured that it applies clear on the skin. It has a nice cooling effect that feels perfect for this hot summer. On my first try, I was worried that this would be too heavy for my oily skin, but surprisingly, my skin felt fresh after washing this off. This may not be rich enough for those with very dry skin, though.

For dullness and large pores, the Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask (P3,100) is the one for you. It also has hijiki seaweed to provide nutrition and hydration, and volcanic ash and activated charcoal to help purify the skin. I find this mud mask to be unique because it is odorless, which is a nice break from scented masks. It applies very smoothly and is easy to rinse off.

My absolute favorite has to be the Pumpkin Enzyme Mask Enzymatic Dermal Resurfacer (P2,995). I believe in using both chemical and physical exfoliation, and this is a unique mask that offers both. It combines pumpkin enzyme, alpha hydroxy acid, and aluminum oxide crystals to get results. I just massage this on my face and leave it on for a few minutes. When I wash it off, my skin feels smoother instantly but doesn’t leave my face irritated or raw. I also really like the scent of pumpkin and cinnamon!

Can’t make up your mind on what to get, or simply want to try all? Peter Thomas Roth products are also available in sets such as a six-piece set of travel-sized masks for P1,250.

Have you tried this brand before? If not, which products do you have your eye on?

Peter Thomas Roth is available at the SM Department Store in Megamall and at Lazada.com.ph.
