End the search: 12 pink lipsticks for every skin tone and occasion
Do you remember your first ever lipstick? Chances are, it's pink! It's the easiest and most fun to wear as it brightens our complexion in an instant. Subtle and sweet or neon hot, everybody loves a good pink. There isn't really a wrong shade of pink unless it's too pale for your skin, so think of this more as a guide on how to choose the best shade for your coloring. Enjoy!
SKIN TONE
As with any lip color, your skin tone and skin undertone is always a good place to start. As mentioned in our red lippie guide, my personal preference is basing on the undertone (warm, cool or neutral) because skin tone can vary depending on your exposure to the sun or use of skin whitening or lightening products.
Cool undertones are perfect with blue/purple-based pinks. The Pink Sugar Creamy Matte Lipstick (P349) in Catfight and Selfie are perfect examples of these. MAC Pink Pigeon (P1,100) and OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Hollywood (P850) are great picks as well.
Blue-based pinks have a quick whitening effect on the teeth; just don't go too pale. Purple-based ones always look amazing on deeper skin.
Warm undertones need orange/brown-based pinks (which you can totally rock if you don't want the straight-up brown lippie trend). Try the AVON Perfectly Matte Lipstick in Pure Pink (P399) and L'OREAL Color Riche L'Extraordinaire Matte in Jardin Pamplemousse (P400).
The lucky neutral undertones can go either way, so you can narrow your choices based on your skin tone. The OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Laguna Beach (P850), Giorgio Armani Rouge d'Armani 512 (~P1,700),and NYX Round Lipstick in Tea Rose (P260) are great pinks to go with.
Get comfortable with these lipsticks so you can wear them everywhere. From working hard to playing harder, pink is a good lipstick option.
MOOD
The different shades of pink give off different impressions, and of course we want to put our best face forward! The first one that comes to mind is the polished pink. These my-lips-but-better shades of pink can be your go-tos for work or school. You need to look professional while being stylish after all. Some of Liz's favorite ones are MAC Lipstick in See Sheer (~P1,000) and CLINIQUE Chubby Stick Intense in Curviest Caramel (P920). For pinkish nudes, you can check out the HAPPY SKIN Shut Up& Kiss Me Moisturizing Lippie in Hold My Hand (P599) and PINK SUGAR Creamy Matte Lipstick in Hot Mess (P349).
The flirty sweet pinks like those in the L'OREAL Velvet Pinks La Vie En Rose Lipstick (P400) collection are perfect for daily wear, or wherever casual is the name of the game. Liz featured lip swatches of the collection so you can see how they can flatter your everyday makeup look. Also check out INGLOT HD Lip Tint Matte in #16 (P1,150) and BOBBI BROWN Nourishing Lip Color in Island Pink (P1,400) for more options.
Special occasions call for special shades of pink, aka the party pink! The MAYBELLINE Color Sensational Rebel Bouquet Lipstick (P299) collection has several standout pinks included. Go for bright shades like REB02 at the more serious events and go bold with loud shades like REB10 when you let loose. Other pop-out pinks include the cult fave MAC Candy Yum Yum (P1,100) as well as the GIVENCHY Le Rouge in Hibiscus Exclusif (~P1,700) for a slightly more subdued option.
As always, don't feel constrained by these guidelines. If you find a pink you love and it looks good on you, then you should definitely go for it. It's also more fun to have a pink lipstick that matches your every mood, so you can instantly turn your working girl makeup look to one that looks more ready to have fun!
