Does the Maybelline Fit Me Line live up to the raves? Here's a full review

I have a (well-documented) bias towards high-end bases. Drugstore foundation, concealer, and powders can do the thankless job of creating flawless skin, surely, but luxury bases belong to another planet. The shade selection, pigmentation, finish, and staying power of expensive base makeup (upwards P1,500) are remarkably better than what you can find for say, less than 500 bucks.

This is not the same for other categories like lipstick, eyeliner, eyebrow makeup, and eyeshadow. Some drugstore lipstick for example are just as good as high-end if we're not considering the experience of luxe packaging. That's why if you ask a true beauty girl about what she'd really blow cash on, foundation/concealer is the most common answer!

The Maybelline Fit Me line has received so many rave reviews, so I put it to work to see if it lives up to its good name. Is it drugstore good for a base, or high-end good? Let's find out!

I'm not going to mince my words: the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation (P399) is really, really high-end good. The shade works great against my skin tone (even though it oxides) and it stays on all day with minimal fading.

What I love about it:

• It offers medium to full coverage with a skin-like matte finish. I can cover minor blemishes with just this foundation! I really like how it adheres to my skin instead of just sitting on top. The finish, for me, looks high-end.
• It doesn't look heavy on me, nor does it feel mask-like against my skin after hours of wear. 
• It's very easy to work with using a variety of tools: fingers, stippling brush, wet Beauty Blender, dense kauki brush - it's not a choosy formula. It blends well and doesn't dry too quickly for a long-wearing base so there's enough time to work it in properly.
• It stays for up to seven hours with little fading; up to 10 hours with a bit of fading, as long as I retouch it as needed. I still get oily but it's just concentrated on the nose area.
• It is unscented. It doesn't have that off-putting powdery drugstore foundation smell.
• A small amount goes a long way! I love the price too. At P399 you get a great formula and 30ml of product.

Neutral:

• It oxidizes a shade darker. I got 228 Soft Tan, which is a step dark on me! But it still works because I have a darker neck color, and it's actually better to use a darker shade of foundation when having photos taken. It looks less washed out.

What I don't like about the product:

• It doesn't have a pump. Hay. 

The Maybelline Fit Me Concealer (P299) has been around a while, if I'm not mistaken, but it's only last month that the brand introduced five shades. I got 25 Medium and it's a good match for my eyebag area. Here's a rundown!

What I love about the product:

• It offers medium light-weight coverage for the under eye area.
• It's easy to blend, and doesn't easily crease on my bags.
• The shade, 25 Medium, has a nice brightening orange tint that ideal for color correcting pigmentation.
• Staying power is good at 6-7 hours with little fading.

What I don't like about the product:

• It's not enough to conceal my blemishes, unfortunately. It has a watery texture that works great for under eyes but just looks translucent against dark blemishes. It should work for you though if your marks aren't as dark as mine

The Maybelline Fit Me Pressed Powder (P399) is silky smooth and offers a decent amount of coverage considering it's not foundation. It has a great matte finish that doesn't look flat or powdery! I actually enjoy setting my Fit Me foundation with this as the shade I got, 220 Natural Beige, lightens the foundation a bit to match it to my tone.

It keeps oil away for about 2-3 hours, average for a pressed powder. It's convenient to retouch with though as it comes with a puff and a mirror. What don't I like about it? Hmmm, can't think of anything. It's affordable and it does the job.

The verdict

I also have the Fit Me stick foundation but the only thing I can say about it is...don't buy it. It's convenient to use because it's in stick form, but it's slide-y and doesn't really set so you're left with a creasy mess even after you've powdered it.

The liquid foundation is, indeed, worthy of the raves echoing around the internet. It's more than just a drugstore foundation; it can compete even with brands like NARS and MAC! Yes, I said it. It's that good, and a steal at P399. Just make sure to get one shade lighter!

The concealer and pressed powder are just ok. They're a worthy buy if you're looking for what's good at the drugstore, but they're not through-the-roof good. They can do what you need them to do and maybe a little bit more.

Will the Fit Me foundation replace my favorite high-end LFs? Well, it's on my base rotation at the moment! But I'd have to be dead before you pried away my Guerlain Lingerie De Peau, Estee Laude Double Wear, Make Up For Ever Water Blend, and Burberry Cashmere Foundation from my cold fingers.
