Blurred Lines: Makeup that's actually good for your skin

Have you ever experienced being told that wearing makeup will ruin your skin? It's something I've heard older people say, and honestly, I can't blame them for thinking this way. Before there were laboratories, technological advances, and actual cosmetic chemists that formulate the makeup we use today, people just used whatever was available and looked good. For example, both the Japanese geisha and Queen Elizabeth I used lead to whiten their faces!

Apart from the strict regulations applied to cosmetics, consumers also now know more about ingredients that are particularly beneficial to the skin. More beauty brands are incorporating them into their products. Whether you've been investing in better skincare or just starting to get into a regimen, skincare-infused makeup is something you should definitely add to your kikay kit. These dual-purpose products won't replace actual skincare, of course, but it's good to have that extra boost of hydration, anti-oxidant protection, and vitamin-infusion even as you wear your makeup!

Estée Lauder's Perfectionist Youth-Infusing Serum Makeup SPF25 (~P2,800 at Estée Lauder)

Foundation looks best when it makes your skin look simply healthy and radiant, which exactly what this foundation does and more. It contains EL's own Perfectionist [CP+R], a correct-prevent-repair serum technology that aids in making the skin look youthful and nourished. In addition to providing medium to full coverage, it also helps firm up skin and lessen fine lines. An added bonus? It has an oil-free formulation that oily skin types will love!

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Skin Booster (P2,250 at Make Up For Ever)

Toeing the line between makeup and skincare, this water-based plumping serum hydrates and smoothens the skin. It can be used on its own as a primer, but it's also designed to be mixed with your favorite foundation. Powered with argan oil and hyaluronic acid, it aids in skin moisturization and nourishment. There's no sticky feeling as it's easily absorbed by the skin.

Shiseido Ibuki Smart Filtering Smoother (P1,700 at Shiseido)

This serum-slash-powder by Shiseido is armed with Photogenic Skin Technology that makes your skin photo-ready in a single application. It has oil-targeting micro powder that helps control oil and draws up sebum - and the effect honestly looks surreal. Skin texture looks so impossibly smooth that you literally look like your face has a built-in photo filter! You can wear both under and over makeup but it's best used as a last step so you can take advantaged of the uber-poreless finish.

Happy Skin's Shut Up & Kiss Me Moisturizing Matte Lippies (P649 at Happy Skin stores)

We've been huge fans of these local lip crayons since they first came out four years ago! As the matte lip trend continues, fans no longer have to worry about chafed, parched lips with pigments trapped between fine lines. Thanks to the nourishing addition of collagen, these lippies create a line-smoothening effect that makes your lips look plump and pillowy. It also has shea butter and kukui nut butter for extra moisture.

Laneige Serum Drop Tint (P1,150 at Laneige stores)

Prefer a juicy-looking pout and a gradient effect to steal the heart of your oppa? There's nothing quite like how this drop tint manages to give brilliant color while locking moisture into your lips. The formula is like a lip balm, liquid lipstick, stain, and gloss all rolled into one gorgeous tube. The secret seems to lie in the oil serum and the berry mix of anti-oxidants that make up this rather unique product, making it a perfect choice for those with dry, chappy lips.

Herbivore Coco Rose Lip Tint (P1,220, Sephora PH)

Love having soft lips with just a hint of color? Like everything by the brand, this lip tint has all-natural ingredients. Virgin coconut oil helps nourish and condition the lips while Moroccan rose imparts a natural pink pigments and a light scent. It’s also cruelty-free!
