TikTok Made Me Buy It: How good is the KVD Beauty Good Apple Foundation?

Blemishes are the bane of my existence. If you’ve been reading this website long enough, then you know it’s something I’ve struggled with since I started this blog! Most of the time it’s hormonal, sometimes it’s products, but whatever it is I’m left with these dark marks that take some time to fade.

Hence, I only mean business when it comes to my concealer choices. I do not take them lightly. That’s why I had to try the KVD Beauty Good Apple Skin-Perfecting Foundation Balm (P2,450 at Sephora.ph) when I saw it on TikTok. It looked like a true full-coverage base, and while I don’t really need a new foundation (I’m happy with the Shiseido Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Foundation), it looked like Good Apple can be a winning concealer.

I’ve been using it for a few months now, so let’s dive into it!

The KVD Good Apple is a cream foundation with a radiant finish. It IS full coverage upon first swipe, so it’s important to really control how much gets in your brush at the outset. This blends out beautifully, with minimal effort, using my tool of choice: a flat wide foundation brush. It can also be applied with a flat top synthetic foundation brush, but I like the flat brush better since it keeps the coverage from being too diffused.

My photos below show exactly what I’m talking about. In the first photo (#1) you see how dark my blemishes are. The second photo shows how one swipe looks like, while the third shows a half face. I only needed about two swipes of the foundation for that entire half face so yes a tiny amount goes a long way! It covered pretty much everything that needed coverage, that I don’t even need a separate concealer anymore.

I was very lucky to blind-buy my shade match just based on the swatches online. I got the shade MEDIUM 039, which was a tad light at first but since I got paler it’s now a near-perfect match. I have to pat myself in the back - y’all know how hard it is to get the exact shade match online! For reference, I am a MAC NC30, medium skin with warm undertones.

As for the staying power, ok. Here’s the thing: this is a balm foundation. And therefore it is balmy! If you have oily skin, I wouldn’t recommend it, because it will crease and fade in places where you are oiliest. It stays a bit emollient and never quite sets. I am now dry-combination skin so this works for me when set with powder and fixing spray, but even so it will not be matte. This is a radiant foundation which I really appreciate about it since my skin can look dull and the trend is glossy skin - but yes, avoid if you’re oily.

Staying power is about 7-8 hours on me but it must be set properly, otherwise it will just fade.

So is this good as a concealer? Yes, for blemishes. It can really cover the nasty dark ones! It’s also easy to work with and makes my concealer routine efficient. It’s a better foundation though, I have to admit. It just makes skin so darn good and even the coverage looks natural because of the radiant finish.

But is it worth it? It’s expensive. Ten grams is P2,450 so it runs out faster than I like especially if it’s used primarily as foundation. For instance, most liquid foundations are 20-30ml. I mean, I’ve already hit pan on it despite me making tipid since August! I suppose it’s good that I will actually finish a product, but there are definitely cheaper concealers out there. I also have to mention that the clear plastic packaging feels cheap and flimsy although I understand it’s recycled material.

Will I buy it again? Hmmm. I think it’s worth it when Sephora goes on 25% off sitewide, which is when I purchased it for P1,838. But full price for it for my primary use case (as concealer) is too much I think. It’s really good though! I guess I’ll find out when I run out.

Let me know if you’ve tried this and how it worked for you!
