Why you should combine the Kojie San Soap with the A Bonne Spa Milk Salt while showering

Someone on Instagram asked me last week about how I keep my legs looking smooth and even. That’s when I realized that I haven’t talked about this nifty technique yet despite “discovering” it some time back! It became viral on TikTok at one point, but I found out about it before I saw it on Tiktok via a “Eureka!” moment in the shower. It just makes complete sense.

But first, a note: the products featured below are marketed as “whitening” products. That’s inaccurate. There is no over-the-counter product that can “whiten” skin. At most you get a really good exfoliation, but that’s it. I’m not promoting whitening skin here. If, like me, you have an issue with uneven skin tone and want to do something about it to feel just a little bit more confident as you face your life, then this is for you.

Why this technique works

As you guys know, I’ve been using Kojie San Soap (P35 / 65g) pretty much every other day for years now. It’s such a fantastic exfoliating soap due to its kojic acid content - stings a bit and the pH of the soap itself is at 9, but it keeps my skin even. I’ve experimented with stopping the soap for a month before and I can feel my skin feeling flaky and accumulating residue from lotions I use. That’s why I always stock a bunch of Kojie San soaps in the house! I’m not keen on running out.

I also always have a pack of the A Bonne Spa Milk Salt (P67 / 300g) in the shower. I don’t use this often at all - only for special events. It’s quite harsh on the skin because it’s literally mostly salt, plus it also has kojic acid. Using this too often will lead to damaging skin more than it can help. However, it’s still the best scrub I’ve tried when it comes to clearing dead skin. It’s just so effective, when used on an as-needed basis.

When exfoliating, I’ve found that it’s best to use a chemical exfoliator and then a physical one to remove the top layer of dead skin that accumulates from using the former. That’s why using the Kojie San Soap regularly and then adding the A Bonne Spa Milk Salt every so often helps to even and smooth skin out instantly. I usually do this when I have an event coming up or when I’m going to the beach. This is also a really effective way to clear out ingrown hair.

How to do it

It’s simple: just sud up with the Kojie San then add a generous amount of the A Bonne salt on top of the area you want to brighten. Rub gently, let it sit for 2-3 minutes, then rinse! That’s it. I specifically focus on the inner thighs, armpit, and knees because those are my main problem areas. You can also apply this on the base or back of the neck, elbows, hands, and feet. Do note that you shouldn’t do this technique if you have any open wounds; for instance, if you’ve just waxed or shaved. Do it a few days after so as not to further irritate skin.

I want to reiterate that you shouldn’t do this more than a 2-3 times a month. Me, I just go for it once a month. Too much and your skin will be over exfoliated. It might develop hyperpigmentation, become drier, and feel less smooth, which defeats the purpose.

It’s important to apply lotion afterwards to soothe skin and moisturize at the same time. This combo can be drying so do this with caution.

And that’s it! I know I sound so strict, but this is the best way to do the Kojie San + A Bonne tag team that I’ve found. Let me know how it goes, if you try it!
