Loving this new scent: Jo Malone Basil & Neroli

Over the years, scent has become a huge part of my life. It's no longer just about me smelling good - it has expanded into a lifestyle where the spaces I frequent have to smell fantastic as well. I burn oils in my home frequently to scent the air. I put a few drops of perfume in my humidifier - it does wonders for a good night's sleep. My clothes, even my partner's car need to be pleasant to the nose. My dog is fresh-smelling and sometimes spritzed with cologne, as well! Am I being high-maintenance? Yes, definitely, and I'm not ashamed of the fact.

A great scent makes for a great mood, and a great mood makes for a productive day. It literally pays to pay attention to the scents you are surrounded by, more than just the personal ones you apply on yourself. I observe that I do better work when I am relaxed and positive. Scents are the easiest way to get to that state of mind, so the minimal effort is well worth what I get in return.

Recently I have been enjoying a popular debutante in the fragrance world: the Jo Malone Basil & Neroli Cologne. I am in love with the joyous burst of fresh green (two kinds of basil: Basil Grand Vert and Basil Verbena), followed by a bitter orange scent that reminds me of a sparkling spring. The dry down notes are white musk and vetiver, for that encompassing warmth that soothes the soul. This new release pays homage to the cult classic Lime Basil & Mandarin Cologne, released 20 years ago, but with a more modern distinctly British vibe.

As with all Jo Malone scents, Basil & Neroli is designed to be mixed with all the other scents in their lineup. It's meant to be a "base scent" layered more liberally, topped with a spritz or two of your fave. Debbie Wild, Jo Malone London studio and lifestyle director, recommends matching it with English Pear & Freesia for a bubbly floral fragrance or Black Cedarwood & Juniper for an uplifting woody scent. Personally, I love it with Peony & Blush Suede to create a complex musky floral. It also pairs well with Red Rose whenever I feel like going for a sexier scent.

I also have the Basil & Neroli Body Creme, which is perfect for extending the wear time of the scent when worn after a bath, before spraying the cologne. It's a heavy moisturizer that makes skin smooth; a little goes a long way. The new scent is also available as a Body & Hand Wash as well as a Home Candle.

Love what you're hearing? Then head on over to Jo Malone boutiques in SM Aura and Greenbelt 5 to experience Basil & Neroli. I believe it's already available in stores since last Friday! Let me know how you like it!
