New Summer Bases from Happy Skin: The Rescue Me Invisible Sun Gel Primer and Second Skin Tinted Moisturizer

I've always kept myself updated on new Happy Skin releases, be it skincare or makeup. Two of their recent ones really piqued my interest: a sunscreen primer and a tinted moisturizer. I know I need both but realistically speaking, how will they fare in my daily routine? These can be used separately or together, so let's see.

The Happy Skin Rescue Me Invisible Sun Gel Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 40 (P899) is "a hybrid sunscreen-primer" that provides protection from UVA, UVB, and Blue Light Rays. This is described as tint-free and without white cast to suit different skin tones as well as having an instant blurring effect.

Like other Happy Skin products, this contains ingredients that are beneficial to the skin as noted in their website:

  • Photolyase - treats spots and blemishes and tackles wrinkles and loss of firmness

  • Hyaluronic Acid - locks in water for lasting hydration

  • Ceramides - fortify the skin barrier that keeps moisture in

The recommended usage is to "spread a generous amount to face and neck after moisturizer and before makeup" and can be worn alone for "a naturally fresh look". I’ve tried this several times already and it does what it says it will - blur my pores and seemingly smoothen out my skin. Its first ingredient is silicone after all! While I appreciate the effect it gives, I prefer a slight tint correction if I am to use this on its own. But if I’m just staying at home and meeting no one online, this will definitely do as it is non-greasy and practically weightless. Save for the slippery feel upon application, this is one of those products you’ll forget you have on.

The Happy Skin Second Skin Tinted Moisturizer (P799) promises a non-sticky base with a sheer to medium coverage. This also contains SPF20 and Anti-Blue Light Technology for protection against UV and Blue Light Rays. Their skin-caring ingredients include:

  • Hyaluronic Acid - binds water to skin to keep it plump and hydrated

  • Kahai Oil - promotes skin elasticity to curb fine lines and wrinkles

  • Squalane - deeply moisturizes and strengthens the skin barrier

  • Niacinamide - improves radiance and texture

There are five shades available and I bought the Cream Beige, recommended for fair to light skin with neutral undertone. This was clearly a huge mistake on my part but the next darker shade looked really yellow in their online swatches. In comparison, Soft Beige is for light to medium skin with yellow undertone which I am trying out below. You can also see Liz try out the shade and review it on Project Vanity's Tiktok.

This is meant to be used "after or in place of moisturizer." Shake well, spread 2-3 drops on the skin, and tap with fingers until seamlessly blended. The result should be blurred blemishes, toned down redness, minimized pores, and a smooth texture. Most of these claims are true except if you have dry skin like mine. You would really need a separate moisturizer as the product will cling to any dryness on your skin. You also need to exfoliate as I’ve noticed it accentuating the pores on my nose if I neglect my routine.

If you have oily skin, then this may work for you as a one and done morning base. Take note though that this only provides a SPF of 20 so wearing a separate sunscreen is ideal. I still like using this one especially when I’ve put on my daily serum + moisturizer combo.

My preferred application for the two though is to use them together. The Invisible Sun Gel gives that necessary sun protection while blurring out my pores. Pairing with the Tinted Moisturizer (given the right shade) will result in a more even tone that nearly eliminates the redness that I struggle with. It’s a natural-looking, somewhat effortless, daily look that I admit to reaching for most days.

Overall, I’m pretty pleased with these two new products from Happy Skin. I think they’ll pair even better when used with their new Calming and Soothing Skincare Line. I just wish the Tinted Moisturizer will have a slightly more moisturizing base and of course, more shades to cater to a wider range of skin tones.
