Full swatches + review of the Maybelline City Heat: The Brick Collection

When I first started buying my own makeup, I bought some of my very first lipsticks from Maybelline. I have been a fan of their Creamy Matte line for years now, and still reach for Maybelline faves like Clay Crush, Nude Nuance, and Touch of Spice despite owning over a hundred lipsticks! And it’s not hard to understand why.

Smooth, creamy, pigmented, and comfortable – there’s little more you could ask from a P299 lipstick bullet. Maybelline keeps the line up to date though, and they’ve released 6 new warm shades inspired by the colors of New York’s iconic architecture. When I saw the photos for the City Heat: The Bricks Collection, I knew that Maybelline had a winner on their hands, and as predicted, I ended up really loving these!

Midtown Pink is a nice brown pink that can be called a bridal pink. It’s a classic warm MLBB that’s friendly across many Pinay skin tones. Madison Red is a slightly muted terracotta red, while Brooklyn Bare is an on-trend brick orange shade.

Soho Nude is a peachy coral with a texture that I find to be more waxy and less opaque than the others. East Village Rose is a nice warm rose, while Noho Amber is a bold chili red.

For all shades except Soho Nude, I can achieve an opaque swatch in 1 to 2 swipes. They all glide easily and appear like a satin matte when freshly applied. They also get progressively more matte through the day, as the oils and waxes lift and transfer while you drink or eat. If you’re looking for a completely no-shine matte, a quick tissue blot should do the trick.

Without eating, you can stretch a comfortable wear time to about five to six hours. They transfer quite easily on drinking surfaces, especially when freshly applied, but a quick smack of the lips should redistribute the color and refresh the look. The lipsticks do completely vanish after meals, but I don’t mind retouching. I bring a couple of the shades in my everyday bag most of the time anyway! I also adore that the new packaging matches the shade that they contain.
