Freshly Unwashed: Three under P500 dry shampoos to refresh your hair ASAP

Having naturally wavy, chemically-treated strands that I compulsively wash almost daily means that I am basically a frizz magnet at the first sign of humidity. To help manage my mane issues, especially when I have to leave the house looking a little more presentable, I tend to wash my hair the night before to let everything settle. I also rely on the magic of dry shampoo!

This cleansing alternative is a godsend when it comes to absorbing excess scalp oil, mattifying overly shiny strands, and freshening up the scent of hair without having to hit the shower. Using dry shampoo does have some drawbacks but they’re easy enough to avoid with proper use. It used to be a challenge to find dry shampoos locally so I’m glad we have more options now, and they’re reasonably priced, too!

Beauty Formulas Dry Shampoo (P129.75 for 150ml at SM Supermarket)

The most affordable and cost-effective of the bunch, this UK-made aerosol is the underrated pick that deserves a second look. Out of the three, this is the one that seemed to address the lack of volume and frizziness the most. My hair is more manageable and smooth, while also looking bouncy with added volume! The catch? This produces the most obvious white cast of the three, powdery texture and all, so a light hand on the trigger is a must. The scent is also a generic heavy floral that isn’t unpleasant but may not suit everyone. This dry shampoo is best for the oilier hair types since it really wicks off all the shine and sebum.

Bench Fix Professional Shampoo & Dash Dry Shampoo (P175 for 100ml at Bench)

A local contender, Bench Fix’s offering is more about the quick freshen-up act. Of the three, it is the least mattifying (meaning, no visible white cast). My hair is left with a bit of shine, and I get the impression that this relies more on the alcohol content to work its magic. The scent specifically reminds me of the smell of the Aqua Net hairspray and takes me back to the 90’s. That’s not a bad thing - I would recommend grabbing this can to get rid of “amoy araw” hair without the hefty price tag.

Hask Argan Dry Shampoo (P499 for 184g at SM Beauty)

This brand makes me feel like a kid in a candy store with the sheer variety of product lines (and scents) to choose from! In addition to the Argan one that I am currently using, the dry shampoo also comes in Kalahari Melon, Charcoal, and Chia Seed Oil variants. There is a noticeable mattifying effect on the hair, but it is moderate. There is a little bit of improvement by way of additional volume or manageability, but the selling point is definitely the scent. Argan has an intoxicating sweet citrus fragrance that reminds me of a less sugary orange soda, and I actually enjoy how it makes my hair smell good!

Have you tried dried shampoos before? What are your favorites?
