Swatches + Review: The Detail Cosmetics Powder Pout Collection

Collaborations have been the name of the game in the beauty industry lately, so a lot of people expected one when Detail Cosmetics (formerly Detail Makeover) teased an upcoming launch on Instagram. What took everyone by surprise, however, was how the collaboration was with 12 Filipino beauty gurus!

Called Powder Pout (P199), the newest lipstick line of Detail Cosmetics features 12 of the biggest names in the local beauty community scene with their respective signature lipstick shades. I have a lot of things to say about this collaboration, so let’s go straight into the review and lip swatches, shall we?

Packaging

Let’s start with the box - I love it! From the color of the box that matches the lipstick shade to the vector art of the respective beauty influencer, the Powder Pout boxes really make a statement. Oh, there’s also a symbol that represents the influencer on the opening flap of the box. Talk about personalization!

The lipstick comes in a square frosted packaging. It made me think of it as the baby of the BLK All-Day Intense Matte Lipstick and Sunnies Face Fluffmatte Limited Edition. The tube features the signature of the influencer on the front and the Detail Cosmetics logo on the back. The lipstick itself is matte all over, which definitely adds to the aesthetic factor.

Shade selection

The Powder Pout collection offers a range of 12 different nude shades that flatter mostly every skin tone. If you’re an everyday natural look kind of person, then this collection is definitely for you. I personally feel that everyone’s bound to find their MLBB lipstick in this line. One thing to note though is that some shades do look similar when applied on the lips.

Here’s a quick rundown of the colors:

  • About Raf - cool-toned pink

  • Angel Dei - coral shade

  • Ashley Yap - rose brown

  • Haidee Dacanay - everyday pink

  • Hazel Quing - peachy orange

  • Kenny Manalad - deep rose

  • Lou Sanchez - terracotta

  • Mae Layug - peachy brown

  • Raiza Contawi - rosy mauve

  • Rei Germar - warm brown

  • Ry Velasco - medium brown

  • Toni Sia - nude peach.

Application

This lipstick is a one swipe wonder. The pigmentations of these lipsticks are impressive! Although powdery matte in appearance - a testament to its name, the lipsticks glide on the lips smoothly. They can feel a bit heavy on the lips, so try not to apply multiple layers. It’s worth mentioning that I didn’t feel the need to apply a lip balm underneath. Finally, I tried wearing the lipstick on my cheeks and eyes! It works!

Smell

I’m used to lipsticks having no scent, so it was a pleasant surprise to find out that these smell really sweet. For me, they smell like the Butter Coconut Biscuits. Just to experiment, I asked my cousin and my brother to take a sniff and identify the scent. They said cookies and chocolate, respectively. Bottomline, they smell really sweet. The scent can be overpowering to some, but there’s no need to worry. The smell doesn’t linger upon application.

Longevity

The lipsticks aren’t transfer-proof but they have good staying power. Before dinner, I had the lipstick on for five hours and it looked just the same as when I applied it. It didn’t feel drying either, which confirms the claims of non-drying and the formula being enriched with Vitamin E. In fact, my lips felt okay after swatching all 12 lipsticks. The Powder Pout lipstick do not leave a stain, and a makeup wipe can easily take the lipstick off.

Overall thoughts

I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that a tube of the Powder Pout lipstick costs P199! Whether you follow the influencers or not, I personally think they are really worth a try. My favorite shades are Ashley Yap, Kenny Manalad, Raiza Contawi, and Rei Germar.

If you love and follow the influencers, however, they are a must-have! Beyond the good performance of the lipsticks, it’s really the experience. Having a lipstick with the name of someone you look up to instantly puts you in good mood whenever you apply it. Let me know what you think of this collection in the comments!
