A Full Review of the Benefit POREfessional Pore Care Collection
One of Benefit Cosmetics' best sellers is the POREfessional Primer, with variants for minimizing pores, mattifying, or hydrating. It’s a personal favorite as it creates a smooth base on my skin and I can wear it alone if I just want to get rid of the skincare shine. But I still want to solve as much of my pore issues as possible - visible pores, clogged pores, texture! The new POREfessional Pore Care Collection is designed to help achieve that.
The skincare routine addresses the common concerns with regards to pores: large, visible pores, clogged pores, and rough, uneven texture. These concerns have an effect on my makeup application, so I'm excited to try five out of their six new products and see how it goes on my dehydrated skin.
Benefit The POREfessional Get Unblocked Cleansing Oil (P2,590 / 147ml, P1,200 / 45ml)
Double cleansing is one thing we can all do to get clearer pores. We need to remove all the dust, dirt, sunblock, and makeup at the end of the day and Benefit’s Get Unblocked Cleansing Oil is the product to start with.
Its key ingredients are Grape seed, Jojoba seed, and Avocado oils for nourishing the skin, Ceramide NP for keeping the moisture balance, and Bisabolol for soothing the skin. I find that this removes base makeup and sunblock gently and thoroughly. Do note that it doesn’t remove stubborn mascara so I’d still recommend using a separate remover for waterproof eye makeup.
Benefit The POREfessional Good Clean Up Cleanser (P1,930 / 147ml, P990 / 45ml)
The POREfessional Good Cleanup is a pore-purifying foaming cleanser that starts out as a gel and lathers well. This uses Lemon extract for smaller-looking pores, Yuzu extract for smoother skin, Bisabolol for soothing the skin, and Sphingolipids for preserving some hydration. I like how this cleanser leaves my skin cleansed yet not too stripped off.
I wasn’t able to check if it’s a low PH cleanser but it doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry though it does feel a bit tight. I especially like the subtle scent as it helps wake me up in the morning. Even when paired with the Cleansing Oil, my skin still feels just nicely refreshed!
Benefit The POREfessional Tight ‘N Toned Toner (P2,260 / 133ml, P1,260 / 60ml)
The POREfessional Tight 'N Toned is a pore-refining AHA+PHA toning foam. It provides gentle exfoliation and visibly tightens pores by using AHA, specifically glycolic acid and citric acid, and PHA gluconolactone. This is my first time to try a toning foam and it’s quite a fun experience. It also feels slightly cooling on the skin though I find that I cannot use this day and night as my skin feels a bit stripped already. I also don’t use it around my lip area as it gets very sensitive so if you have sensitive skin, you might want to test this out first or skip it altogether.
Benefit The POREfessional Deep Retreat (P2,590 / 74ml, P1,325 / 37ml)
Benefit launched two Pore Masks in the POREfessional line. One is the Porefessional Speedy Smooth (P2,590/75g) which is a quick smoothing pore mask for immediate effects. This is flying off the shelves according to the Benefit team which is why it wasn’t available at the time of the event. It is currently available online at Lazada so do jump at the chance if you’re looking for something similar to an instant facial.
The POREfessional Deep Retreat on the other hand is more of a consistent treatment type as a pore-clearing clay mask to be used weekly. It uses Kaolin clay for deep cleaning, Sea fennel extract for minimizing excess surface skin oil, and Bisabolol, Jojoba seed oil, Plum kernel oil, Prickly Pear flower extract for smoother skin.
This is a pretty good clay mask! I like how you can see it drawing out the oils from the pores though I’m not so fond of the 30 minutes waiting time. It does dry down faster when I use a small fan with it. I like how my pores look after so I will continue to make time and use it. I also just use it strategically - on the nose, forehead, chin, and cheeks depending on how clogged my pores are looking.
Benefit The POREfessional Smooth Sip Moisturizer (P2,915/50ml)
After a thorough cleansing, toning, and masking routine comes the moisturizer. The POREfessional Smooth Sip is a lightweight smoothing moisturizer for pores that feels like nothing on. I was actually worried that it won’t be enough for my dry, dehydrated skin but it works even with just a hydrating toner. The Smooth Sip is a water-based gel-cream that uses Celery and Flax seed extracts to improve skin texture, and Niacinamide, Squalane and Aloe leaf juice for hydration. It moisturizes the skin enough and makeup sits well on top of it. I highly recommend it especially in this summer heat where we sometimes don’t want to put anything on anymore.
Overall, Benefit’s The POREfessional line is a win for me. They’re easy enough to add on to my routine and they address my pore issues. While I still have to use some form of tint to cover up the pores on my nose, I can see that consistency with this routine will go a long way towards my skin goals of less pore visibility and smoother texture.
