A review of Mentholatum Acnes skincare line: Which one should you get?

We've all been there: we wake up with a zit right before an important event. Whether it's a date, an outing, or a big presentation, a pimple can be a big downer. And with people still dealing with maskne, we're all trying to find quick solutions. I recently tried the complete Acnes line by Mentholatum and here's what I found.

As someone who usually gets hormonal acne, I'm always on the lookout for ways to reduce irritation and prevent more pimples. With my cycle coming up, I started with the Acnes Creamy Wash (P150 / 50g, P252 / 100g), a gentle, soap-free cleanser formulated with salicylic acid for oil control and Centella asiatica extract for soothing and recovery of the skin. While it produced a thin foam with a pleasant herbaceous smell, it can be drying for those with dry skin like me.

After washing, I used the Acnes Anti-Acne Spot Gel (P283 / 18g), one of my favorite products from the line. Formulated with 2% sulphur and salicylic acid, it really worked to dry up my active acne. The spot gel is also loaded with Vitamin E to restore skin elasticity, protecting the skin while dealing with the spot. The formula was thick and sticky and worked best if tapped on instead of spreading.

It's a misconception that if you have acne, you should skip moisturizer. Overly dry skin can try to compensate by overproducing oils, which actually leads to even more acne. The Acnes Oil-Control Moisturizer (P335 / 45g) replenishes moisture while still controlling oil and soothing any irritation. The product has a pleasant apple scent from the apple extract and has a pump for easy dispensing. It also has actives like salicylic and Centella asiatica for extra zit-fighting power. This product works best for oily or combination skin types, but those with dry skin may need a thicker moisturizer.

At night, I used the Acnes Anti-Acne Pimple Patch (P222) to protect my spot from any tossing, turning, or scratching I might do in my sleep. I'd also put one on before heading out. The patches come in three different sizes and blend into the skin so they don't stand out.

Even using just one of these products can help you zap those zits, but the entire line is a . With fewer pimples popping up and the ones that did dry and heal better, I can see myself reaching for their spot gel and pimple patches the next time I wake up with a zit.

You can get the entire line at the official Mentholatum store on Lazada and Shopee. They're also available in Watsons and Mercury Drug branches nationwide!
