Hot right now: the MAC A Novel Romance Collection

Confession: I read a TON of romance novels back in high school and college. If you look at my paperback library at home, maybe 30% of them are under campy romance! What, they're fun. Reading about muscly barbarians, wily pirates, and venomous fey saving headstrong women in fantastic situations and falling in love while at it is fun. I'm not going to defend my life choices to you. Haha. Seriously though it's been way too long since my last romance read! Thanks to MAC though, I just got enough of a dose to keep me going!

The brand's new collection, A Novel Romance, arrived in local counters last week. It's all about sultry, nocturnal shades that are envisioned for steamy encounters with beautiful strangers. There are also two new formulas introduced in this collection: the MAC Fluidline Pencil, which is the best-selling gel liner formula now in a twist-up tube, and the MAC Electric Cool Eyeshadow, which is a highly pigmented cream-slash-powder hybrid for the eyes.

Jelly? Lol. So happy I got to drop by the event, else I wouldn't have this picture. :P

Before we get to swatchin', here are the complete descriptions + prices of the products included in MAC's A Novel Romance collection!

The lipstick selection is appropriate for fall - two are cool and pastel, while three are vampy. None of them excite me that much although Lingering Kiss does look gorgeous. I give it top marks in pigmentation and finish (an even matte).

Lipsticks: Myself (soft shimmery nude beige), Yield To Love (mid-tone rose), Good Kisser (mid-tone fuchsia), Lingering Kiss (deep plum red), Hearts Aflame (mid-tone brick red)

I was immediately fascinated by the Electric Cool Eyeshadows (P1,350), which feel like a creamy powder. It's not closer to powder like L'Oreal Infallibles, nor is it truly cream like the Maybelline Color Tattoos. This is spongy, very pliable, and molds into whatever shape your finger presses it into.

Size is larger than your usual MAC eyeshadows and closes with a screw-in lid. It's so that the product won't dry out.

The pigmentation, as you can see below, is pretty good. All of these are just one pass; you wouldn't need a primer to get them to show up this brightly on your lids! Although perhaps you might end up needing a primer anyway if you have extra oily lids.  I love Superwatt, a light taupe, since it's easy to wear and I'm lazy. That and Pure Flash! can also be used as a base for powder eyeshadows.

The new MAC Fluidline Eye Pencils (P1,100) are my favorite from this collection though! As you know I'm a huge fan of the Fluidlines so having them in more convenient packaging is awesome. These pencils glide on like butter, are pigmented in one pass, and come in beautiful colors. My top picks are Water Willow, a deep emerald green (to me), and Earth Sign, a chocolatey brown.

Fluidline Eye Pencil: Evil Twin (blue purple), Deep Blue Sea (deep ocean blue), Atomic Ore (gold), Water Willow (deep khaki green), Earth Sign (deep brown), Black Brilliance (black), Metropolis (deep metal grey)

This hand swatch, btw, lived through two showers and one dishwashing sesh. They are so long wearing I had to rub them out with makeup remover pa. That's why I'm sorely tempted to get them even though I have too many eyeliners already. Argh!

Soooo there you have it, something new to drool over at MAC! Better hurry if you want something from A Novel Romance since most of the products are just limited edition. ^_^

Have a great weekend y'all!
