For the practical princess: Lucas Papaw Ointment

A product that's 4.5/5 after 225 reviews at Makeupalley is something to take seriously. It must be really good, or there's a misguided mass hysteria surrounding it. :P Whatever the case is, I think Lucas Papaw Ointment (P450 at Digital Traincase) deserves the raves. It's not particularly special as a lip balm but for healing wounds and minor irritations? This is awesome!

Lucas Papaw Ointment is a petroleum-based salve that is infused with papaw, or carica papaya, that is grown and hand-selected in Queensland. Papaw is touted to have healing properties when applied on stings, cuts, and burns. This was found by Dr. T.P. Lucas who then created his ointment 100 years ago - a recipe that still remains unchanged up to this day.

It's interesting to note that the company making this is still family-owned and that they only employ 12 people. They don't seem to advertise heavily (if at all). This is worth mentioning because Lucas Papaw seems to be a staple in Australia, something both women and men carry with them at all times.

But I'm rambling. The most obvious use for Lucas Papaw Ointment is as a lip balm or thick moisturizer for anywhere you need it, but due to its anti-bacterial properties, it can also help heal or offer temporary relief to:
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Sunburn
  • Gravel rash, cuts and minor open wounds
  • Diaper rash and chafing
  • Insect bites
  • Splinters and thorns
  • Eczema
  • Dermatitis

I've had minor wounds due to some silly accident or other. A few weeks ago, I seem to have pricked my thumb while shopping at the mall (how the ef does that happen anyway?). I saw a bit of blood but I didn't think more about it. The next day, my thumb was aching inside, where the puncture was! There seems to be some sort of splinter stuck inside. It was itchy and I kept picking on it, so I thought I'd try out Lucas Papaw. Lo and behold, the soreness went away after a couple of hours. I didn't notice where the splinter went but my thumb felt normal again.

Colorless ointment with a mild creamy scent

Something more recent: last Sunday, I accidentally broke my mom's glass plate. I didn't notice that a tiny shard embedded itself on my fore finger, so my thumb accidentally forced it deeper. There was a lot of blood, to say the least. -_- The cuts were small but there was still some bruising and soreness, so I applied the ointment last night. Now, they're all dried up and back to normal!

Swatch on bare lips

So yes, you can see why I love it. It's very handy for healing not just wounds and scrapes but also erupted pimples and rashes. On the lips, it's super light with only a touch of greasiness. It is moisturizing but it dries up completely in a few hours. I wouldn't say it's the solution to severely chapped lips, unfortunately, because it doesn't leave a lasting blanket of moisture.

A thick, waxy lipstick with barely any shine

Applied Lucas Papaw on top to thin out the waxy texture + make lips look fuller and juicier!

It has a rather glossy finish so it can be used on top of lipstick as a clear lip gloss. If you're more adventurous, you can create a tinted gloss just by mixing a tiny chunk of lipstick with a drop of Lucas Papaw.

You get so much product in one tube, so have fun.

Overall, the Lucas Papaw Ointment is a practical companion not just for kikay purposes. It comes in a huuuge 25 gram tube so it will take forever to finish! No wonder so many people raved about it! You can purchase one from Digital Traincase

Tried this yet? How did it work for you?
