Revlon PhotoReady Compact Makeup

One of the more interesting products that came out late last year is the Revlon PhotoReady Compact Makeup (P945). It's the answer to the prayers of the fans of the PhotoReady Liquid Makeup since it has none of the shimmers everyone complained about. It also toes the fine line between liquid and powder, a plus if you're the type who likes powder more than liquid foundations.

The PhotoReady Compact Makeup is a cream foundation that comes in a long, rectangular compact that features a "liquefying mesh". This mesh presses through the foundation to sort of squeeze it out. Intriguing eh? There's a small sponge that comes with the whole package.

What I like about the product

  • As with other products in Revlon's PhotoReady line, this foundation gives a smooth, matte finish that registers well on camera. That is really the product's main selling point!
  • Feels very light on the skin as the cream quickly turns to powder and dries up.
  • Has SPF 20. Major plus points for me.
  • Easy to blend. I also found a color match in Natural Beige!

  • Convenient compact comes with a mirror and a sponge that does the job well.
  • No breakouts for me.
  • No strong scent.

What I don't like about the product

  • Lasts for only half a day (5 hours) without a primer. It starts to fade in patches and in the oilier areas. I really recommend using a face primer + finishing powder on top of this foundation.
  • Coverage is not as buildable as I hoped. More than two or three layers can look cakey.

Neutral

  • This is a sheer/ light coverage foundation. Personally I don't mind since I always use concealer to cover up my blemishes, but other girls may want to skip that step. This foundation does a great job of evening out the skin, but not so much for blemishes and dark bags.
  • The price is just ok - P995 for 10 grams. Don't love it, don't hate it.

Recommendations

If you have good skin and only need a bit of makeup to sort of polish it up, then this is for you. It's also great for applying makeup while you're on the move - say, in a bus, car, plane, name it - since application is almost foolproof. It's sheer and super easy to blend, so it's hard to make a mistake! Just don't forget to at least wear a primer underneath to prolong wear time.

Now, if you're a gal who needs heavy duty foundation to cover up major blemishes and redness, then this product may not be what you're looking for. I suggest you just save another P600 and invest in a MAC foundation.

Verdict

It's an okay foundation. I like using it as a base for mineral makeup since just one layer does a great job in faking flawless complexion. I really appreciate that it has SPF20, since this allows me to skip a step in my routine!
