Beauty Roundup: Sunnies makeup, YouTube beauty guru battle, and a Plains & Prints collab

How much tea can actually be spilt in a week?! Brace yourselves as this week’s roundup gets a little bit more dramatic than usual. We’re talking Jeffree Star coming after Filipina YouTube star Michelle Dy, and Huda Beauty throwing some major shade on a blogger’s skin! But don’t worry because despite the drama there’s a silver lining - we’ve also got some amazing face bases, flowery fragrances, and seriously stylish threads to look forward to. Read on for some tea and treats!

The latest local brand to hit the beauty scene is...a sunglass brand?

Sunnies are famous for their affordable yet oh-so-chic sunglasses that took the Philippines by storm a few years ago, but now they're throwing their hat in the ring with their first foray into beauty. They have recently announced Sunnies Face, a makeup brand that is serving some serious millennial #aesthetic and what seems like incredibly pigmented matte lippies. We've spotted Martine Cajucom and Georgina Wilson, Sunnies co-founders, wearing a gorgeous peach shade.

A quick check at the Food and Drug Administration website shows two products under Sunnies Face: the Fluffmatte Lipstick in nine shades (Vacay, Nudist, Milkshake, Girl Crush, 143, Mood, Baked, Hot Sauce, Major) and Lifebrow Pencil in two shades (Ash Brown and Taupe). We'll post swatches when they officially launch on August 8!

The new Plains & Prints x Mark Bumgarner is a collection that embodies everything a beautiful, fierce and powerful woman is about. With 13 gorgeous pieces, the collection features tons of floral prints, pastels, and classic staples for every wardrobe. Would you like some drama with that tea?

Apparently, Jeffree Star does not approve! The unapologetically vocal YouTube beauty guru and makeup mogul recently took to his Snapchat to blast (without naming names!) Filipina YouTuber Michelle Dy for what he claims is a clear violation of his trademarked video series, Jeffree Star Approved. According to Star, his YouTube series has copyrights in the U.S. and that his legal team would be getting in touch with Michelle regarding the issue. Since the post went viral, Michelle has taken down both of her own MD Approved videos and issued an apology over on her official Twitter account. What do you guys think about this issue?

Huda ya think you are?

What exactly were they thinking?! It looks like Huda Beauty has found themselves in some pretty hot water after they posted an article featuring the photo of YouTuber and skin acceptance advocate Em Ford for an anti-acne scar post… without her permission! The article (which was originally published on their Facebook page and has been taken down) received tons of angry reactions that got the blogger to speak out. Ford, who runs the My Pale Skin Blog, is an outspoken advocate for skincare and skin positivity. She has been battling acne and acne scars for years, and has been big on promoting self-love and confidence, regardless of how your skin looks. She took to her IG stories to talk openly about how her skin journey has shaped her and changed her as a person, and left Huda Beauty a challenging question - to be part of the problem or the solution. Although it has been confirmed that an employee was responsible for the post, Huda Kattan herself has issued an apology both to Em Ford and to all those who were hurt by the post.
