Up your ponytail game this summer

The pony tail is every woman’s go to 'do on a hot summer day. It is a quick way to get all that hair off our face and neck to cool us down, but it can be a bit boring and monotonous. Here are a few ideas to shake up your one-trick pony into a fun new reincarnation!

Let’s start with the basics. Where you secure your hair tie can already have an impact on changing up your look. Most girls sport a mid-pony (pictured center), which is appropriate for an everyday look. Bringing it down to your nape (pictured left) makes it more demure and feminine with a come-hither vibe, especially if you leave a few strands to artfully frame your face!

For extremely hot days, try the high pony. It has a sportier vibe and can even look fashionably edgy if you keep it sleek (pictured right). Just don't wear this every day as it can stress out your hair and scalp.

Center Part Pony

Whether you're attending a beach wedding or simply lounging by the pool, this polished pony is just as easy to do as your regular one. Simply part your hair to the center and keep your pony low and sleek. Use a styling gel or the TRESemme Split Repair Serum to keep your hair flat on your head and at the tips.

You can also curl the bottom of your hair then loosen 'em up to create waves. Mist on some salt spray to look like you just came from a day of lounging at the beach.

French Braid Pony

Use the summer break to learn something new! Learn how to do a French braid from this video, and use the same technique to start a stylized pony. Start by spritzing a volumizing spray like the Kiehl's Super Thick Volumizer onto your roots and lightly teasing the hair on your crown. Create a French braid from the top of your head down to your nape and secure with elastic.

Side Pony with Crown Braid

This is my ultimate recommendation for those who have bangs. Make a simple braid on your bangs until the back of your ear, then gather the rest of your hair and tie them in a single elastic. Spray a bit of Prostyle Fuwarie Styling Mist to secure your braid and keep flyaways in check. This style is quite youthful yet elegant at the same time!

Will you be trying any of these looks? How are you keeping cool and stylish this summer?
