The Wonders of Water: Six tips for staying hydrated inside and out

When you pare it down to the basics, the easiest way to care for your skin is by hydration. Sure, skincare buffs can seek out anti-aging, brightening, and softening qualities in the lotions and potions that they carefully pat on but those are additional benefits that most often accompany the fundamental skincare formula: moisturizer. Staying hydrated both inside and out is the surefire way to get softer, smoother, and generally healthier in the long run.

With that in mind, today’s theme is all about incorporating the venerated H2O the smarter way into your daily life! Here are a few trusty tips.

#1 Take a SIP

Let’s do the math:  8 glasses of water = 2 liters = 4 500 ml bottles of water. That means you can easily keep track of your water intake whether at home or on the go. For the latter, you can turn to SIP! At P9 (350ml), P11 (500ml), and P20 (1L), each bottle contains pristine water that has been filtered naturally by volcanic rocks followed by sand and activated carbon filters, reverse osmosis, ultraviolet treatment, and ozonation. This results in a very mild mineral flavor that I find very refreshing!

#2 Get clean

When the day is done, it’s time to strip it off! Since we’re long-time advocates of double cleansing, it’s a no-brainer to reach for a first-step cleanser that has the good stuff in it. CREER Cleansing Water and CREER Cleansing Water Oil In (both at P545 per 330ml bottle) contain spa water from Japan’s Shimane prefecture, which is famous for its gorgeous-skinned women (there must be something in the water?) The former is great for light makeup, while the latter works with long-wearing and waterproof makeup.

#3 Slough off

We’ve raved about Cure Natural Aqua Gel (P1,500 for 200ml) since way back in 2013, and our sentiments have pretty much stayed the same five years later. The Cure Gel is a gentle way to exfoliate without leaving skin high or dry.

Tip: The suggested amount is one pump each for the forehead and either cheek used twice a week. A single bottle can last up to four months. Cure can also be used on those ashy areas like elbows, knees, and ankles, in addition to exfoliating the face.

#4 Arm yourself with a mister

The affordable way to a luxurious experience is to take a bottle of purified water and decant the contents into a spray bottle for a quick spritz to prep skin before makeup or refresh skin when washing your face isn’t an option.

#5 Grab a water-rich moisturizer

Cure Natural Moisturizing Gel (P1,500 for 100g) has an interesting story behind it. After noticing that the workers at Cure Aqua Gel’s factory had dry hands, management decided to formulate a moisturizer in their lab to improve the condition of their workers’ skin. The outcome was a hit, so it was shared with the world! The Cure Moisturizing Gel is a lightweight formula that is able to lock in moisture. It even indicates how hydrated skin is by releasing water droplets on moisturized skin and staying dry for those with under-hydrated skin.

#6 Craft a biodegradable mask

Would you believe that the rice spring roll wrappers in the grocery can double as a sheet mask? Many Asian cultures (including our own) believe in the beauty benefits of rice. For a DIY fix, simply cut rice paper into four parts that will fit the forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. Soak the rice paper in green tea or rose water until the paper plumps up (about 2 minutes). Apply the sheets to your face and mask away for 15 minutes!

Got any tips on how to hydrate better? We’d love to know what you think!
