Editor’s Picks: The Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush and Brightening Concealer

Celebrity beauty brands are all over the place these days, with many of them seeming like they’re just merch, or a second thought sent out into the void by celebrities who simply can’t have too much money. But I find Rare Beauty to be an exception. I see Selena Gomez with regular updates on socials and seeming very involved in her own brand (this is not as common as it should be). Of course there is a team running it day-to-day, but somehow it feels like the brand has a soul. At least to me.

That’s what pushed me (among other reasons) to buy a couple of Rare Beauty items from Sephora.ph. I got their best-selling liquid blush and brightening concealer. Is the hype real? Here’s what I think after a few months of using these!

First up is the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Dewy Liquid Blush in Joy (P1,350 for 7.5ml at Sephora.ph). I first tried it because I received a sample card of RB liquid blushes in my last Sephora purchase. It just sat on my desk for AGES until I finally tried it, and since then I was sold. Joy is a beautiful, beautiful warm peach shade with the perfect radiant finish. It was love at first sight, really.

I only ever need a half of a dot per cheek to get a gorgeous flush since it’s really pigmented. So yes watch it, especially since the doe foot applicator is especially large! I also love using it on the lids and the lips, although it’s best to have fully exfoliated and bare lips for this to work as a color for that area. Otherwise it will look patchy.

Staying power is great as it lasts for up to eight hours on my cheeks. It really sticks! It won’t disturb prior foundation or sink into dry patches. As for the packaging, I find it unique and modern-looking. I love that you get 7.5ml of product in the tube, so I already know that this will last forever with me. Unlike the concealer below, this is really sulit for the price.

So yeah, I will buy the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Dewy Liquid Blush in Joy again but probably in a different shade next time. Joy will probably expire first before I finish it!

Next is the Rare Beauty Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer (P1,300 for 7.5ml at Sephora.ph) is formulated to be an all-around concealer that’s cake-free with medium to full coverage and a radiant finish. I find this to be mostly true! It’s a good concealer BUT it has limitations. It’s the type of concealer that’s best for the under eyes. It has, for me, medium coverage only. I have some really dark blemishes that this isn’t able to cover fully even with a couple of layers.

The Brightening Concealer is good if you have an uneven skin tone like me, but it’s fantastic on top of generally good skin. It looks really natural and the finish is the perfect level of dewiness. Staying power is average at about 5-6 hours when set with powder on my combo dry skin so I won’t recommend it for oily skin types.

Here’s the concealer in action. You can see it was able to cover most of the uneveness but there’s still some pigmentation showing through.

I blind-bought the shade 260N online and I got lucky because it’s a near perfect match! For reference, I have NC30 skin although I am a bit lighter now so probably around NC25. A lot of shades were out of stock and 260N was the one that looked nearest to my skin tone. I think it suits me.

I like that the sponge tip is large so you can be generous with products and the packaging itself is quietly elegant. At P1,300 for 7.5ml of product, it’s on the higher end for cosmetics, but I do think it’s not a rip off.

Will I buy it again? I have extremely high standards when it comes to concealer because of my blemish issues. While I do think that this is a good concealer, it’s not the concealer for me.

Let me know what you think of the Rare Beauty products you’ve tried so far!
