Love liquid matte lipsticks? Then you've met your new 349-peso favorite
When I tried the first five neon colors of the Pink Sugar Lip & Cheek Tint (P345) I was mightily impressed by their intense opacity and staying power. Whenever I wear my favorite, Purple Pleasure, friends never fail to ask what I have on! It's a beautiful color, one you should definitely grab if you love yourself a grapey magenta (WHY NOT). The rest of the colors in the Sugar Tint's maiden collection though, hmm. They are way too bright even for a loud lipstick lover like me.
Now Pink Sugar, as always, heard their customers and just recently came out with five gorgeous matte shades that everybody is just fawning over. There are two new nudes, two deeps, and one red. The formula is much better than the first collection; it's creamier, smoother, and not drying at all (at least when I allow a lip balm to sink in before application). I asked the owners and they said they didn't touch the formula - it's the exact same one, but the pigments used are simply more refined in texture.
The staying power of these liquid lippies are superb. If you don't eat, they can more or less stay there ALL DAY unless you rub them off. They don't transfer much (if at all) when drinking. If you do eat, the corners and inner center may fade but not super visibly. The stronger shades leave a solid stain once they're all gone.
Application is not a bother. As I mentioned above, I apply some lip balm first then blot it to prime my lips. I do this technique for all liquid lipsticks to keep them from drying me out! One layer is enough to get 100% opacity - except for Naughty Nude. I find myself doing two to three layers to get it to cover up my lips completely. It almost matches my skin tone.
I have to mention that these lipsticks (for most of them are too bright or dark to wear on the cheeks) have a sweet syrupy scent. I don't mind, since it's a small compromise for the excellent formula.
Overall, I highly, highly recommend the new Pink Sugar Lip & Cheek Tints. They are ridiculously affordable, come in great shades (Queen Bee and Honey Bunny are my top picks), and stay on forever. ^_^ And now, here are my color notes!
FYI - There lippies are no-light-passes-through matte. They're as matte as matte can get. But due to my super bright lighting set up, the swatches look like they have a slight sheen. Sorry about that. You can click on each image to see a bigger version.
Naughty Nude is a tawny, warm nude. If you're looking for a lipstick that almost matches your skin tone, this is the one! It is passably close against my NC35 shade. If you're fairer, it should look like a nice camel nude. It takes me two layers to get this to 100% opacity.
Honey Bunny is my nude soulmate. It's a browner, sliiiiightly more pink version of Naughty Nude. Love it! It looks like the natural color of my lips. This is opaque in one layer. In the photos below, you'll see how it looks smashing on Angela too, who is morena.
Queen Bee is the runaway crowd favorite. It's a deepened cranberry with a brown base. IMHO, if you can get only one shade from this collection, get this! Below is Marielle, who is fairer than I am. Queen Bee renders deeper on her than on me.
Vampy Vixen is a deep, bloody red. It seems that dark reds are in this season (nvm that it's summer in other parts of the world) and this hits the spot! Code Red is a classic fiery red with a warm undertone. As reds go, this is definitely a keeper.
So there you go, hope you enjoyed our review and swatches! Have you picked out a shade already?
