Lightweight and Invisible: The New Happy Skin Hyaluronic Sun Serum and Happy Skin Invisible Sun Stick Are My New Summer Must-Haves

Summer has arrived which means hotter days and more trips to the beach. The intense heat we feel on our skin is a not-so-gentle reminder to always use sun protection. Happy Skin has quite a few sun care products already (check out reviews here: Rescue Me Invisible Sun Gel Primer and Rescue Me Tinted Matte Sun Gel Primer) but they’re expanding the line-up with their newest “sun-centric skincare collection”: the Happy Skin Sun Boosters.

There are two new products in their recent release: the Hyaluronic Sun Serum SPF50+ PA ++++ (P999) and the Invisible Sun Stick Broad Spectrum SPF50 (P899). Both are said to be white cast-free and have Anti-Blue Light Technology to reduce blue light damage from our mobile devices on our skin. Like other products from the brand, these use skin-caring ingredients in their formulation.

The Happy Skin Hyaluronic Sun Serum SPF50+ PA ++++ (P999) is marketed as a lightweight sunscreen-serum, which kind of confused me on where it would fit in my skincare routine. Apparently it's applied at the very end like regular sunscreen though it is also said to be “routine-trimming”. It has 4 key ingredients for 12-hour hydration (Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramides, Cica, and Niacinamide) plus Panthenol and Heartleaf Extract. The product uses a water serum capsule technology for that invisible finish.

I tried using this with just toner to see if it can cut my routine but it’s not enough for my dry skin. It is recommended for normal-oily skin though so if you have the same skin type as mine, layering it with a thin moisturizer or a couple of applications of hydrating toner is a must.

L-R: Bare skin with just minimal skincare, After applying Happy Skin Hyaluronic Sun Serum

As you can see in my before and after photo above, there’s practically no difference after application. There’s just a slight sheen to the skin which I honestly kind of love because it makes my skin look healthier. It doesn’t cover pores though which is one benefit I would have wanted but I guess that’s for the Happy Skin Sun Primers to address.

I personally prefer this over the Sun Primers though even with the lack of coverage because it really feels like you just applied serum and nothing else. I actually had to think twice if I had already applied or not. I’ve also tried using it at the beach and during a couple of long drives and I’m happy to report that my skin didn’t burn. Note: I do stay out of the sun from 10am-3pm as much as I can!

The Happy Skin Invisible Sun Stick Broad Spectrum SPF50 (P899) is also a SPF serum product but in  stick form. This can be used for the body as well so it’s a space saver for beach trips. I personally prefer this for the face since it’s so small but it’s nice to know that we can make do with just this one if you’re using a small beach bag.  This uses the key ingredients Hyaluronic Acid, Cica, and Ceramides to produce a fresh and dewy finish and is recommended for normal-dry skin types.

I do find the Sun Stick to be better for my dry skin and I enjoy applying it. I will opt to use this on a bare face or a light base though instead of on a full face of foundation as it does move the makeup a tiny bit. But in a pinch, it can be used over makeup – just be sure to pat it down and do some blending with your fingers. I tested this out over foundation and I had to go over some areas to smooth out patches. I love how it feels on the skin though so I’m actually torn if I’d go for this or the Happy Skin UV Sun Mist for on-the-go reapplication!

Top: Happy Skin Invisible Sun Stick, Bottom: Happy Skin Hyaluronic Sun Serum (Blended)

Even if both are hybrid skincare products, ultimately these are for sun protection so reapplication is a must. You can get these individually but there’s also the option to get the Sun Boosters Duo (Serum + Stick) (P1,699) and save some pesos from the individual pricing.

Overall, I do recommend the Happy Skin Hyaluronic Sun Serum and the Happy Skin Invisible Sun Stick. They are both lightweight and hydrating on the skin. If you’re looking for a natural, dewy finish for your sun protection, one of these (or both) can be your next go-to!
