DIY your own makeup brush cleaner. It’s easy!

I have a confession to make: I have never used a store-bought makeup brush cleaner in my entire beauty-loving life.

I’m a big fan of DIY, so the idea of paying for something I could do or make myself doesn’t appeal that much to me. But I’m not discounting the effectiveness of store-bought products, of course! I may have to try one out to see if I’ve been missing out on something.

Still, right now, I’m happy with how the fruits of my experiments have been serving me. So I thought I’d share how I DIY my brush cleaning solution!

I used to rinse my brushes with alcohol before shampooing them prior to discovering this “recipe.” The alcohol tends to dry out the bristles though, so I tried to find another way to disinfect them. You need only two things: olive oil and anti-bacterial dishwashing soap.

I’m always scared of the bacteria that might be living in the strands my brushes, so I need to be appeased by the word “anti-bacterial.” Thankfully, this recipe will get rid of unwanted guests in your brushes not only through the help of the dishwashing soap but also the olive oil! Did you know that olive oil has natural anti-bacterial properties? Plus, this mixture also acts like a shampoo-conditioner combo, which is great for your brushes.

So here’s how you do it: Just mix two parts of the anti-bacterial dishwashing soap with one-part olive oil, and you’re ready to start cleaning!

Wash and dry your brushes thoroughly after running them through the cleaning process. And make sure even the innermost bristles are dry before you store them to prevent mold and bacteria from breeding. SO easy!

What’s your favorite makeup brush cleaner? Are you also a fan of DIY?
