Drugstore Week: Revlon Photoready Primer, Shadow + Sparkle Palette in Impressionist

Have you seen the new Revlon Photoready Eyeshadow Palettes? I think they're created for women who want to play with eyeshadow, but don't really know much about application. The palette is packaged in a way that no one can possibly mistake the placement of each color, and it comes with a gorgeous creamy primer, too. 

That said, if you're a bit more advanced in makeup (as I am) then I don't think this particular line is something you need in your life. Still, there's a lot to be said about the lovely shades in the Revlon Photoready Primer, Shadow + Sparkle Palette in Impressionist (P775)! It caught my eye the minute it arrived in my doorstep.

I love how Impressionist brightens and contours my eyelids in a subtle, photogenic way. If you're into the "no makeup makeup" look then this is the perfect palette for that purpose! The shimmery, oh-so-smooth base (bottom left of the palette) makes the colors on top come out, and helps them stay on longer even without a proper primer. It's not quite a cream product; it feels wet to the touch, but dries in a powdery smooth finish.

That light copper and taupe for the lids and crease respectively are great, must-have shades. I believe they'd look best on fair to medium skin like mine. These two eyeshadows are pigmented and well-milled. I wish that Revlon would make singles of these shadows, because I would definitely love to purchase them - and the creamy beige primer too!

The browbone shade is just okay. I wish it wasn't shimmery, just to balance out all the shimmer in the palette. I'm ambivalent about the pink glitter shadow on the bottom right. It's meant to be a topper, meaning you're supposed to pat it over your lids once you're done with the rest of the colors.  Hmm, I suppose it would look nice if I'm going to a party. But it's thoroughly dispensable.

How best to use this palette: I would recommend you apply a translcent eyeshadow primer underneath, but if you're in the pinch the shimmery base in the palette will do. It does hold the eyeshadows well together - I give it three hours before it starts to mildly crease, which isn't too bad. Apply the base up to the crease only, then the lid color, then the crease color, before blending out that taupe with the provided beige browbone shade.

Overall, I do like the Revlon Photoready Eyeshadow Palette in Impressionist. I'm not feeling the packaging nor those tauntingly useless sponge applicators, but I can't deny that the eyeshadows look fantastic when worn. :) That creamy base is really something - I would even suggest you wear it alone on your lids, as a quick eye brightener! The copper and taupe are also quite gorgeous.
